Beach Wedding

images-197

Would you choose to go with the less conventional? While not the classic norm, beach weddings are still wildly popular.  Easy for those who live on either coast, not so much for those who don’t…  If you reside in the middle of the country, and want a beach wedding, it becomes a “Destination Wedding.”  cape-cod-beach-wedding-cakeThere ARE advantages to a “Destination Wedding.”  Advantage number one: you get your dream, and a gorgeous venue to boot. You don’t have to spend a fortune on decorations – unless you want to (like couple did in the last photo with the extravagant flowers).  The natural beauty of the sand and water is all you need.  The weather is rarely a factor, most days are usually warm if you pick spring or summer.  Even  a few drizzles are navigable.

Advantage number two – the fun attire!  I love the bridal sandals in photo number two.  While pretty, they don’t even have a sole!  You get the attractiveness of a shoe, without the complications of a sandle in the sand.  Advantage number three: it can significantly reduce your guest list to only family and dearest friends.  Who else would take on the time and expense involved in traveling to a beach wedding?  Number three – think of the photo opps!!  The photo of the bride and groom above is gorgeous and life-long keepsake.  In fact, I have never seen a beach wedding photo that wasn’t spectacular.

Where ever you marry, it doesn’t really matter.  You are joining your life with your best friend, your soul-mate.  It can be in the presence of  a justice of the peace, in a church, or on a beach…

VERY Cool Wedding Ideas

images-185

Why hasn’t someone thought of these things before?  The heel savers above are terrific!  How many times have you ladies had to walk on grass in heels only to become embedded in the sod?  Not only is it potentially dangerous, but it ruins your heels with a nasty grass/mud stain!  If you have a reception venue outside, chances are likely there will be some grass involved.  And do you really want to be forced to choose a “sensible shoe,” (and possible dress to go with the shoes!), based on the lawn?  These little babies give you the best of both worlds.  Wear your finest, but still be mobil on the grass

WeddingDIY_DixieCupLightGarland8These dixie cup “DIY” lights are delightful!  Purchase an ordinary Christmas strand of white lights – consider shopping “Day After Christmas Sales” for best prices – attach the cups near the lights, and you have a beautiful, yet inexpensive lighting scheme.  Disclaimer…personally, I’m not sure of the “real world” safely of attaching paper products to an electrical component…so use your best judgement…

The wax paper backdrop has to be the most innovative thing ever!  Space is limited, so I won’t bore you with the specifics of the “how to’s”, but if you’re interested, click on the link below and get the instructions.  Supplies are:  wax paper, string, and rope.  I think it would make a lovely room divider in a large barn/warehouse type space, or a gorgeous backdrop for bridesmaids’ photos.  If the bride is wearing white, it wouldn’t be the best compliment for HER photo, however.

What about adding a hair bow to a pair of shoes the bride, (or bridesmaids!), already own and jazzing them up like the shoes above?  It could be the bride’s “something blue” or tie in bridesmaids’ shoes to the wedding color scheme.  It’s a way for the maids to wear their own shoes while still giving them a uniform look.

I think of all the “VERY cool wedding ideas” on this blog post, the “To My Groom” keepsake is my favorite.  Not sure what the bride wrote to her groom in it…but that’s as it should be…

Innovative Wedding Invitations

2009122210011

Would you consider one of these innovative wedding invitations? The can above is 200912221002

adorable.  It even comes with it’s own instructions.  Here’s the drill…Select the wording for your invitation, the “can company” inserts the invite and seals the can.  You then mail the can in the box provided to your guests.  They “Pop” it open upon receipt, and save the tin can to attach to your “get away car” after the reception.    Sound like more trouble than it’s worth…that’s what I was thinking….

1-handmade-wedding-invitations-ideasThe “bride and groom invite” is my favorite among this group. I think it’s cute while still being classic.  Planning a destination wedding with a beach theme?  Then the “Flip Flop” invites are for you!  If your wedding’s formal…you may want to reconsider.  Upon receipt the guest realizes immediately your wedding will be a relaxed affair…

3I love, love this “pop up church” wedding invitation.  The only downside, think of the cost per invite.  I’m sure they’re not cheap… not to mention the extra postage charge!  Feeling a little playful? What about the “Spinner Invitation” below? While cute, I think it would be more in keeping with a bridal shower or bachelorette party.  Whatever you decide, allow time for shipping, printing, (reprinting for possible misstates!), and the time consuming addressing and stuffing of the envelopes.  If you chose to have a calligrapher address your invitations, his/her time must be factored in as well.

Wedding Veil Alternatives – Part II

jenniferbehr

What about a headband instead of a wedding veil?  The above photo offers some beautiful choices.  From the ornamental white flower to the slim regal headband to it’s right, you can achieve a glamourous look.  It gives a 1920’s feel, doesn’t it?

I think the bejeweled wide blue satin band above is exquisite.  It would be most flattering with short hair or an updo.  And just think…it could be your “Something Blue.”

Feathers??  Feathers have made a recent fashion come-back.  According to www.queensofvintage.com, “…Nowadays, thanks to recent designer  collections, the feather has once again taken centre stage, and has for years now been enjoying a re-invention. The modern plumage however, is not just an added adornment to simple hats and dresses. Designers have used this beautifully versatile item to create stunning dresses (Karl Lagerfeld for Fendi), earrings, purses (Christopher Bailey for Burberry) and waistcoats to name but a few.”  But with wedding attire?  I wouldn’t, but then I am just one opinion…

And what about a wedding “hat.”  I like the look, but think it’s more in keeping with a second marriage, or an older bride.  It just doesn’t say “blushing bride” to me.  It’s also much less formal, and just wouldn’t go with a long ball gown, if that’s the look you’re going for.  But if you’re having an informal affair, and are wearing a day suit, a hat like the these would be just the ticket.

I envy the British.  Hats for the ladies are de rigor for weddings, and important social events.  I love the look.  But then…it’s one less fashion accessory for the ladies of the US to worry about…

Here’s hoping KK wears a veil on HER wedding day!
